Wisdom
I am heading out of town this Labor day weekend to a wedding of one of our best friend’s daughter.
For those who cannot bear to be without some words of wisdom from the Lou, I share something short to think about which I did not write but wish I had. I think it’s insightful and is appropriately named “Wisdom.” Unfortunately, neither I nor the source of the book from which it came knows who the actual author is.
WISDOM (unknown author) – from the Good Book- A Humanist Bible by A.C. Grayling
The mighty man is he who conquers himself
The rich man is he who is satisfied with what he has
The honorable man is he who honors others
But the wise man is he who learns from all men
The wise do not speak before they listen
The wise do not interrupt but open the gates of their eyes and ears to learn
The wise do not hasten into speech nor to reply
The wise ask what is relevant and speak to the point
The wise speak of first things first and last things last
The wise say of things they have not heard, I have not heard
And of things they have not seen, I have not seen
The wise acknowledge truth
The wise are hard to anger and easy to appease
The wise study to practice, not only to teach
The wise know that according to the painstaking is the reward
The wise say little, do much and face the world with cheerful countenance
The question to be asked at the end of the each day is: How long will you delay to be wise?
